december 18 - december 24

BROTHA IS LEGAL NOW. unfortunately, i was not with him on his actual birthday but we started the holidays in style when i joined my family in spokane. needless to say, his tolerance is quite low so far so he was pretty giggly all the time. it was pretty pleasant. my mom wasn't so happy, however, but her mood passed once she saw how much fun we were having. all in all, it was a good holiday my parent's house.

oh, and i saw this sunset a lot.

december 11 - december 17

this week we celebrated miss emily kight's birthday by going skating. i went skating and DID. NOT. DIE. in fact, i didn't even fall over. okay, to be honest, we weren't on real ice. we were on this lubricated polymer plastic stuff. it was weird but kind of like ice. it was as cold as it would have been on real ice.

anyway, i DID. NOT. DIE.

december 4 - december 10

last night i went to a video game tavern (yes, you read that right) to watch my friends perform a series of songs based on League of Legends. they call themselves Area of Defect and they are really good. to be honest, i have no idea what they were rapping/singing about but i know it was good. and the nerds really loved it.

november 27 - december 3

mrs. peacock
yesterday was my friend jordan's birthday. he had a Clue themed birthday party wherein we actually played the game. i was cast as mrs. peacock as what you see above is my interpretation. it was a good night. oh yes, it was.

november 20 - november 26

whoops. a bit behind...

this was our first thanksgiving in my parent's new house. i think it was really lovely. not every member of my family is having as easy of a time with the transition from the old house to the new house. yet, the traditions remain the same. the first tradition is putting up the tree after thanksgiving. my family starts early, as you can see.

happy thanksgiving everyone.

i hope it is grand.

november 13 - november 19

SLUTS.
this was a long, eventful, emotional, wonderful, heartbreaking week. what that really means is: there was a lot of celebrating. not only was it the closing of my show at annex theatre, but it was my good friend, amanda's birthday. the theme for her birthday weekend was "sluts." i used the theme as an excuse to buy sparkly shorts (shown above). amanda wore no pants. i think both of these options were fitting.

overall, it was a pretty good weekend.

november 6 - november 12

on thursday, i got up ridiculously early to go to a presentation on color with my co-worker shannon. she drew me in with free breakfast. DAMN MY LOVE OF FREE FOOD! the presentation was only so-so but by the time we were done, this is the view that awaited us outside. every now and then i wish i was already in grad school, learning more things, exploring other parts of the country. but then, i see this view, this lovely city outside my window and i fall in love all over again.

the other fun thing about the presentation: i assumed my co-worker patricia's identity for the day. made me feel important. ah, simple pleasures.

look! i have friends! friends who come to see my show and bring me flowers. i love my friends.

october 23 - october 29

welp. i can't really remember what i did this last week so there are certainly no pictures from it.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

october 9 - october 15

poster by Ian Johnson
this is the reason why i haven't been taking pictures. i'm in rehearsal for this new show! yay! it opens this week. gah. a little scary but we'll get there.

come see it!

october 2 - october 8

oops. i'm behind a bit. and i've changed the rules a bit, as you've probably noticed. now i'm just picking a photo for the week. preferably one i've taken, but lately that just doesn't seem to be happening.

now to catch up...
above is the photo for the Double Shot Festival i took part in in Tacoma, WA. it works much like a 14/48 Festival. playwrights get a theme around 8pm one night and have to turn in a play by 8am the next morning. the directors and actors work on the play all day and perform them that night.

it went surprisingly well. i wasn't sure how my script was went i sent it away at 5am, but it turned out well. it was inspired by one of my actresses love of julie andrews. i would actually love to be apart of the of the festival again some time. and what a great way to inspire new works.

september 25 - october 1

i know, i know. i take too many pictures of my food. but, in my defense, i love food. and this is particularly good food. i've been so busy lately i haven't been eating out very much (good for my wallet). so today, armed with my best friend and a free day, we headed off to oddfellows lounge. YUM.

maybe next week i'll have a more interesting picture to show y'all. maybe not. who knows?

Sunday, September 25, 2011

september 18 - september 24

again, i do not have a photo from this week. this time, my excuse is being in rehearsal all the time. i do love being in rehearsal all the time though.

here's what i'm rehearsing for: c. 1993 (you never step into the same river twice).

and this week we have been working on getting janet jackson moves from this video:

into this PJ Harvey song:

and so far we're being successful.

come see this theatrical event (show isn't the right word). it's gonna be weird and awesome.

september 11 - september 17

i don't have a photo from this week. i'm only a little bit sorry.

i did spend quite a bit of sunday watching, reading, and listening to coverage of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. it was enthralling for some many reasons. so instead of a photo here is a beautiful piece of music with snippets from september 11th. it's terrifying but like i said, it is gorgeous.

Valier, MT
this week: a couple more montana pictures. my trip did cross into two weeks and honestly, i don't have any other pictures from this week to show you.

plus, will you just look at this scenery? who could not love to at least look at this? *sigh*

august 28 - september 3

Two Medicine Falls, Montana
when i was a kid, i hated montana. i immediately got bored thinking about the wide open spaces and the lack of anything to do. montana seemed too simple, almost like going back in time.

well i spent this labor day weekend in montana and now that i'm a bit older, i find i feel entirely different than i used to. montana almost seems magical to me because it is like going back in time. there are no buildings to obstruct the view. you can hear yourself think. i miss that. i miss being able to hear myself think. i don't think it is only the city stopping me from hearing myself think but...regardless.

montana means more to me now. if i had to pick roots, montana would be it.

august 21 - august 27

bainbridge island, wa
on sunday, i journeyed across the water to bainbridge island to visit one miss emily kight. her brother took us on "adventure time" in which we discovered the most beautiful view of seattle i have ever seen. unfortunately, i did not get a picture of it. this will have to suffice. also pretty.

my office moved this week as well. i think we're all exhausted and deserve a party.

oh, and by the way, here's a cute picture of shannon and i.

august 14 - august 20

snoqualmie falls
what i love is an adventure you didn't know was going to be an adventure. on saturday, that adventure was called "snoqualmie." snoqualmie is a little town to the east of seattle that is actually a big draw for tourists because of the falls (which you can see in front of my companion in the picture above).

late last week, my dear friend anna townes, asked me if i would like to do a day trip somewhere. she picked the place (snoqualmie, of course) and i got in the car. we even hit the town during "railroad days". oh! what luck.

at some point during the day anna said "i like that you like to do things." i like it too. or i'm liking that i like to do things more than i used to.

LET'S GO DO MORE THINGS.

interruption: a song

this, for whatever reason, means a whole lot to me right now.

Monday, August 15, 2011

august 7 - august 13

SeaFair - Lake Washington, Seattle, WA
last week was...long. it began with a ten-hour "adventure" on a boat for SeaFair in which my lovely roommate and i (pictured above) did not apply sunscreen and got second degree sunburns. as a result, last week was very long as well. long in the sense of side-effects of sun-poisoning.

for all the complaining i have and will do about that day, most of it was actually pretty fun. boat living is the life, as long as you were doing it with people you enjoy. i would do SeaFair again but only in that capacity...with people i like. and lots and lots of sunscreen.

july 31 - august 6

greenlake - seattle, wa
it was summer for like three and a half full days this week. yep, seattle may finally be having summer. it was so nice that i twitter the following (which is almost immediately retweeted by KOMO4 News - fancy): "and now we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to go bask in the glory of the sun. we'll return when it becomes seattle again."

interruption: old -> new

last week i went to cheney to help my parents move from my childhood home to a fancy new place on the top of a hill just outside of spokane. they literally "moved on up." for your point of reference we start with old house:
yes, this is the house we lived in for seventeen years. people keep asking me if it was hard for me to see it go. it really wasn't. for one thing, it's not on the market yet (which is why i went to cheney, to help my parents get it ready). and for another thing, my family had already moved most everything out by the time i got there. it didn't really seem like my space anymore. still...i'm sad to see the history go. my trajectory in spokane will forever be different.

on a related note, i am so proud of my parents. they have worked so hard and they definitely deserve this:

july 24 - july 30

our returned peace corp volunteer
this week's post comes early, partly because the rest of the week i am in spokane helping my parents move houses. there will be separate tangential posts about that later.

this week's post also comes early because i am almost too excited to handle it. Byron Yee has returned from his two years in Senegal with the Peace Corp. on sunday, i threw a small get together for him. not wanting to overwhelm him with people, food, and drink, it was pretty low key. every time i looked over and saw him sitting on my couch, i couldn't help but smile. i am lucky to know him and count him among my good friends. he's about to head off to china to teach english...another important mission. does this man ever stop?

july 17 - july 23

electric lemonade - la cocina, capitol hill
this week was filled with lady dates. what you are seeing above is what one miss Anna Townes and i got before our trip to the theatre to see Vitriol - a fabulous new work. needless to say, i was good to go. and even without this, the show would have been just as enjoyable.

july 10 - july 16

the lusty lady - literally
lady sleep over! really all you need to know is that our dear miss Christina Berger loves her blue ball.

july 3 - july 9

4th of July - the Lusty Lady
the 4th of July was a delightful day long binge of gluttony, alcoholism, and a midday group nap. this is my favorite picture of the whole day and it happened almost immediately after Anna Townes and Emily Kight reached our living abode. the prompt was "make your best sam face" and this is what came out.

yep. it's pretty accurate.

catch up

my old computer is kaput. and all my files are gone. just like that, they are all gone. everyone sob with me. i'll wait.
...
okay, now that we've got that out of the way, i've got some photo weeks to catch up on. get ready for multiple posts in just a few minutes.

how lucky are you?

hiatus

sad news. i dropped my computer and now it won't turn on. actually, that happened about a week ago to be exact. i pretty much had a breakdown as it hit the floor which is both understandable and distresses me. apparently, i have become incredibly attached to my computer. i'm going to say it's because i'm a writer and all my stuff is on there. but really it's probably because i rely too heavily technology.

regardless, i am currently borrowing the roommate's computer and/or doing all my computing at work. so until my computer either returns to me alive and well or is officially dead and i have to get a new one, this blog is in hiatus.

june 19 - june 25

This week saw a lot of gorgeous weather and the beginning of summer. I spend the solstice on the 21st at Golden Gardens with waterbottles of margaritas, nachos. and two lovely ladies. Welcome summer. Now please stay and be lovely and warm.

june 12 - june 18

i'll be honest with you, readers. i don't have a picture from last week. don't get me wrong, many many things happened. BUT i neglected to take photos of any of it. oh well. you'll just have to stay in the dark about my last week. poor you.

5K Race for the Cure - Seattle Center
SAVE THE BOOBIES.

I'm taking the picture of this last week from early in the week. On Sunday, the roomies and I did the 5K Race for the Cure, a walk to race money to find a cure for breast cancer. We walked with Christina's mom's work (Sage). It was really fun, not to mention a great cause. My Aunt Jane is a survivor of breast cancer so it was great to be able to walk for something that has directly effected my family.

Something else we learned that day: our apartment to Seattle Center and back is almost a 5K. Yes, almost but pretty close. That makes me feel good about my walk to work at least.

Sense and Sensibility opening - Center House Theatre
Another openin', another show, y'all. Friday marked the opening of Sense and Sensibility at Book-It. It is a fantastic show. The acting is wonderful, the set is innovative and picturesque. I highly recommend seeing it and not just because I work there.

I had a lovely evening with my Book-It family and my date, Ms. Emily Kight. It was probably the best night I've had in awhile. No worries, just a play, free wine, and good conversation.

And we'll miss you interns.

Jimmy Sorrentino - The Gypsy Cafe and Pub
*Gasp* I actually did a lot of things this week including but not limited to: fair food friday, elephant ears, Red Robin (classy, I know), and Bridesmaids. But one of my favorite things I did this week (including one of the only things I took a picture of) was see my dear friend, Jimmy Sorrentino do some stand-up. I've been living in Seattle for what? Almost a year now and I had yet to see Jimmy do some Seattle stand-up. Well, finally I went. It was return to comedy after he had bones removed from his head! (wisdom teeth) Let me tell you, he was funny. Welcome back Jimmy. You can bet I'll be seeing more shows.

Wanna laugh? Just think Jimmy Sorrentino.

Tea on Wheels - Volunteer Park
Yes, this week is another lovely Book-It post. This Saturday, we piloted a niffy marketing idea called Tea on Wheels. This idea was brain-child of our lovely marketing and communications director Patricia Britton. We teamed up with Diane and the Street Treats truck and went to two different parks and read scenes from our upcoming show Sense & Sensibility. Delicious treats and impromptu performance! What could be better?! I performed as Elinor Dashwood and Shannon Erickson was Marianne Dashwood. It was grand fun. It's been so long since I've done any performing, let alone got to put on a costume. Wheeeeee. Plus Shannon and I got to try out our knowledge of the Book-It style...which I don't think we messed up too much.

And Shannon, you will always be my Marianne.

may 8 - may 14

Little Bee reading - Seattle Central Library
(okay, i'm a little behind.) the Seattle Reads book for this year is Little Bee by Chris Cleve. if you have not read it yet, i suggest you do so. while i'm not a fan of the marketing they used here in america, this is a very powerful book no matter which way you turn it. Book-It usually works with Seattle Public Libraries to adapt the Seattle Reads book, and they did so again this year. Chris Cleve was on hand to watch the proceedings. and hip-hip hurrah! he loved the reading. loved it. all of us book-iteers could not be prouder.

and seriously, read the book.

playground - kerry park
there were sunny days this week! multiple sunny days! (and some rainy ones as well.) we started the week by having a delicious and really expensive brunch at Salty's and then going on a park tour of seattle. of course Salty's is out at Alki but then we headed to Kerry Park (which you see above) and Gasworks later that day. it was a glorious day.

apr 24 - apr 30

a little behind but here it is:
cal anderson park: capitol hill - seattle, wa
christina and i spent all day saturday at the park. it was gorgeous, bright, and full of hooping. every time i think spring is finally here and summer is on it's way, the northwest reminds me where i am with the bipolar weather. this is a picture of a mural outside the construction site for the light rail stop on capitol hill. it also reminds me of where i live.

rain or shine. this is my place.

Saturday, April 23, 2011

apr 17 - apr 23

seattle center - international fountain
this week was...very not great. but the last couple of days have been much much better. the culmination of all the greatness was the sunny and seventy degree weather that graced our presence today. it was gorgeous. i just laid in the sun and soaked it up. here's to hoping it stays this way. but knowing northwest weather, i wouldn't count on it.

ACT Young Playwrights Festival/Competition - ACT Rehearsal Room 2
this week i had the opportunity to direct a play for the ACT/NPA NW Young Playwrights Competition at ACT. five directors were brought in to direct the five top entries from the competition. we rehearsed twice and were ready to perform on thursday night. thursday was incredibly exciting as the evening began with an announcement of the rankings. and guess what? our young playwright won! the picture above is of my cast reading the winning play "Losing Lauren" by Becca Ehlers, a very talented sixteen year old.

special thanks this week to my cast: Anna Townes, Corey Lynn Atencio, Jessica Baloun, Colin Wallace, Dom Thomas, Zach Mercier, and Christina Berger.

thursday happy hour - sullivan's
the pictures are still coming from last week but i'm going to go ahead and put up this week's picture. so, i did a lot of things this week but apparently i only took one picture...of my drink. what else is new? my roommate christina and i went to see Vanities at ACT and afterwards we went to Sullivan's for the awesome thursday happy hour. five dollar martini's and five dollar burgers? yes please!

Monday, April 4, 2011

mar 27 - apr 2 is coming...

i have pictures in mind to post for last week. i'm just waiting for my roommate to upload them so i can steal them and then...you will have them. be. excited.

Guilty Pleasures: Teatro Zinzanni
this is me and our lovely production stage manager/stage management intern lauren peirce before all the madness that is guilty pleasures, book-it's annual fundraising gala. i'd say it went pretty well. i think shannon would say the same...in her vinyl (once pb's vinyl) dress.

revamp 2.0

yes, i think i am revamping this blog yet again. after thirty days of photo-taking, i think what will be more interesting is a photo a week blog. still photos, still one every so often.

so that starts...NOW. well soon. i'll let you know. thanks for sticking by readers. or if you aren't...well that's okay too.

March 2, 2011 - my room
when i got home from work, all i wanted was to nap. but it's hard to sleep when this the view from your window.

yeah, i like it here.

twenty-nine.

March 1, 2011 - Jalisco's: Belltown
today was a long day at work. not hard necessarily but a lot of last minute things to do. so many last minute things to do, i missed trivia with jbro. i did, however, make it to margaritas with emily. so that's really all you need to know: MARGARITAS.
